Before Engine 104’s station was closed, these were the last fire companies that operated out of there around the clock, 24/7. Michigan Avenue wasn’t very busy on weekends back then. After the station shut down, Engine 104 was reassigned to Engine 1’s location, and Engine 4-2-4 was moved to Engine 26’s station. It was a sad moment for this old firehouse, which had stood for many years as a symbol of Chicago’s firefighting history.
