This message comes from Bill Friedrich:

Before Engine 104’s station was closed, these were the last fire companies that operated out of there around the clock, 24/7. Michigan Avenue wasn’t very busy on weekends back then. After the station was shut down, Engine 104 was reassigned to Engine 1’s location, and Engine 4-2-4 was moved to Engine 26’s station. It was a truly sad moment for this historic firehouse.

Bill's photos capture the legacy of these historic vehicles and the firehouse that once stood proudly on Michigan Avenue. These images are more than just memories—they’re a tribute to the brave men and women who served in the Chicago Fire Department over the years. The closure of Engine 104’s station marked the end of an era, but the stories and history live on through these pictures and the people who remember them.
