Here's a report from Larry Shapiro: The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a fire in a cattail field located in Hawthorn Woods on Sunday. The area was surrounded by residential homes, and access to the opposite side of the field was several blocks away, making it difficult for firefighters to reach the scene quickly. Due to the size of the area and the limited access, the department initially requested a MABAS Box Alarm and later upgraded to a Second Alarm to bring in more resources. The address provided for the incident was 8 Westwind Court. I arrived at the scene after the Second Alarm units had been dispatched, and by that time, the fire had already been extinguished. I took a few photos to capture what remained of the burning field and the response efforts. These images reflect the situation as I saw it upon arrival.
