This is from Larry Shapiro: The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a fire in a field of cattails that broke out on Sunday in Hawthorn Woods. The area was surrounded by residential homes, and access to the opposite side of the field required crews to travel several blocks. Due to the size of the area and limited access, the department initially requested a MABAS Box Alarm and later upgraded to a 2nd Alarm for additional support. The address listed for the incident was 8 Westwind Court. I arrived at the scene after the 2nd Alarm companies had been dispatched, and I found the fire already under control. I took a few photos of the area while I was there, and I thought I'd share them with you. Even though the fire was already out when I arrived, it was clear just how serious the situation must have been.
