The domestic acetic acid market continued its downward trend last week, driven by an increase in supply and a growing wait-and-see attitude among market participants. Transaction volumes remained weak, with most manufacturers adopting a cautious approach. Only a few producers in Eastern China adjusted prices slightly downward.
Jiangsu Thorpe maintained normal production and sales, with a factory price of 7,000 yuan per ton, down 100 yuan from the previous week. The actual delivery price was around 6,900 yuan. Yangzi Acetyl plant operated at full capacity, offering prices between 6,800 and 7,000 yuan, remaining stable compared to the prior week. Similarly, Yangzi Petrochemical operated normally, with quotes ranging from 6,800 to 7,000 yuan, unchanged from the previous period. The Shanghai Wusong plant also ran smoothly at 7,000 yuan, down 200 yuan from the previous week, with an actual ex-factory price of 6,900 yuan. In the northeast region, entry prices were 6,600 yuan, while local prices stood at 6,900 yuan. Daqing plant remained in normal operation, with ex-factory prices of 6,700 yuan (entry) and 6,800 yuan (northeast), unchanged from the prior week.
In East China, the acetic acid market entered a declining phase. Although manufacturers did not make significant price adjustments, rising negative factors led to a sharp drop in prices. The mainstream market price fell to 6,700–6,900 yuan, down 200–300 yuan from the previous week. At Jiangyin Port, prices were 6,700–6,800 yuan, down 250 yuan from the prior week. Nantong's main quotes were 6,800–6,850 yuan, down 200–250 yuan. In Zhejiang, prices were 6,800–6,900 yuan, down 200–250 yuan, with weak trading activity.
South China followed suit, as acetic acid prices declined alongside the East China market. Market supply gradually eased, and downstream demand weakened, with end-users purchasing only at lower levels. This shift in supply and demand dynamics put further pressure on prices. The mainstream market price dropped to 6,700–6,850 yuan, down 200–250 yuan from the previous week.
North China saw a sharp decline due to increased supply. With the Shijiazhuang Xinyang Sanyu acetic acid plant coming online, market pressure intensified, leading to a drop in prices. The mainstream quoted price was 6,500–6,700 yuan, down 250–300 yuan from the previous week. In Shijiazhuang, acetic acid prices ranged from 6,500–6,600 yuan, while methanol prices in Tianjin were 6,600–6,700 yuan.
In afternoon market analysis, the acetic acid trend showed a slow and weak movement. While the downstream acetate market experienced a slight increase, manufacturers’ large inventories dampened production enthusiasm, and demand for acetic acid continued to fall. As a result, any minor price rebound had limited impact on the overall market.
Domestic acetic acid production is increasing steadily. After the expansion of the Xinyang acetic acid plant in Shijiazhuang, output has risen, affecting the market. Meanwhile, Yantai ore-based acetic acid production is expected to grow, adding more supply pressure. Additionally, acetic acid prices in the Far East have fallen, with low-cost imports arriving in Hong Kong, further intensifying market concerns. Given these factors, the acetic acid market is likely to continue its downward adjustment in the near term.
