The Beijing Olympic Games are drawing near, and Yanshan Petrochemical Company, a key player based in the capital, feels a strong sense of responsibility. As one of China’s leading petrochemical enterprises, it recognizes its role in supporting the Green Olympics initiative and contributing to the "Blue Sky Project." This means ensuring cleaner fuel quality for vehicles and providing high-quality materials for infrastructure development. With the demand for sustainable and advanced materials increasing, Yanshan Petrochemical is focusing on innovation and technological advancement to meet these challenges head-on. One of the company's main goals is to improve fuel quality. In line with the "Blue Sky Project," Beijing aimed to implement Euro IV emission standards for gasoline and diesel by 2008. As a major supplier of automotive fuels in the city, Yanshan Petrochemical has been closely following global trends in fuel cleanliness and investing heavily in R&D. The company has developed and implemented several new technologies and processes, including detergent gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas for vehicles, and ethanol gasoline for testing. It also launched high-quality aviation kerosene, 98# gasoline, and Euro II standard fuels for the local market. In 2005, despite rising crude oil prices, Yanshan continued its fuel cleanup efforts. By May, it had successfully produced second-phase Euro III-compliant diesel, and in June, it introduced Euro III-compliant gasoline ahead of schedule. By the end of 2005, the company had produced over 1.35 million tons of Euro III-compliant fuel. Looking ahead, Yanshan is currently working on a 10 million tons per year refining system upgrade, expected to be completed by the end of 2006, which will allow it to supply Euro IV-standard fuels to Beijing. In addition to fuel improvements, Yanshan is also expanding its synthetic resin production. As China's largest producer of synthetic resins, the company offers a wide range of high-quality products, including block copolymer polypropylene and hollow HDPE. It has also developed advanced plastic pipe materials like PPB, PP-R, and PE80-grade HDPE, which are used in water supply and drainage systems and have reached international standards. Yanshan has also made significant progress in polystyrene fiber development, with successful trials of PS670 in 2005. The company has also launched a new high-pressure polyethylene plant that produces highly transparent resins ideal for agricultural films, boosting both profitability and market competitiveness. Regarding synthetic rubber, Yanshan is a major player in the Chinese market, producing seven types of synthetic rubber, including butadiene rubber, SBS, and butyl rubber. With an annual production capacity exceeding 260,000 tons, it is the largest integrated research and production base in China. The company continues to enhance its traditional products while exploring new grades, such as SBS 1301-2 for asphalt modification, which meets international performance standards. To meet future market demands, Yanshan is actively developing halogenated butyl rubber and EPDM rubber. It has already introduced the technology for halogenated butyl rubber and is preparing for large-scale production. These efforts are part of the company's long-term strategy under the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,” aiming to further solidify its position as a leader in the petrochemical industry.
