On March 7, 2005, a meeting was held at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, attended by several prominent figures in the field of drying technology. The participants included Xiao Chengji, Wang Wenchuan, Qu Yixin, Cao Chongwen, Shi Yongchun, Liu Xiangdong, Liu Dengxuan, Liao Chuanhua, Chai Benyin, and Zhang Hua from "Chemical News." The main topic of discussion was the preparation for the Tenth National Drying Conference.
Dr. Liu Chuanhua from Nanjing University of Technology provided an initial report on the planning of the conference. Following a thorough discussion, the group reached consensus on several key points.
Firstly, it was decided to advance the conference dates to September 21–24, with the venue initially set at the Nanjing Huadong Hotel. Secondly, the original special contribution award was canceled, and instead, the group agreed to honor senior experts with symbolic souvenirs and spiritual recognition.
The conference schedule was outlined as follows: the first two days would feature eight thematic reports in the mornings, with all special presentations compiled into the conference proceedings. A detailed summary was expected to be completed by the end of April. The speakers were confirmed as follows:
- Prof. Mujumdar, contacted by Liu Xiangdong, presented a review of international drying technologies.
- Prof. Chen Guohua, originally scheduled but unable to attend due to an unforeseen event, was replaced by Pang Shusheng from New Zealand, who spoke on the academic development of drying technology both domestically and internationally.
- Xiao Chengji and Wang Xizhong provided a historical overview of drying technology in China since the first national conference.
- Zhang Bingguang from Beijing Forestry University discussed wood drying.
- Zhang Min from Jiangnan University covered the drying of agricultural and sideline products.
- Zhang Hong from Nanjing Gongda presented on the application of Japanese drying technology in China.
- Liu Guangwen from Shenyang Chemical Research Institute focused on the use of drying technology in industrial settings.
- Li Zhanyong from Tianjin University of Science and Technology delivered a presentation on a specific topic (details not fully specified).
In the afternoons, there would be topical group discussions, where papers would be categorized and presented using brief descriptions and PowerPoint slides.
Regarding paper submissions, the professional groups were instructed to conduct formal reviews, avoiding overly commercial content. All papers had to be submitted electronically by June 15. The excellent paper award was also discontinued, and members of the drying professional group were required to submit their work.
The proceedings were to have a cover titled “Proceedings of the 10th National Drying Conference,†with the title page celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Drying Professional Group under the China Chemical Industry Association.
A small-scale cultural relics exhibition commemorating 30 years of development was planned, featuring photographs and artifacts organized by Shandong Tianli. It would include contributions from notable experts such as Xiao Chengji, Wang Xizhong, Cao Chongwen, Pan Yongkang, and others.
The professional group and China Drying Network, coordinated by "Chemical News," planned to collaborate comprehensively. The network would serve as a platform for academic exchanges, while the group would provide technical support.
Lastly, a training course on drying technology was to be held before and after the conference, with details to be finalized by the professional group and "Chemical News" as contractors.
