China's migrating population saw a decline for thesecond consecutive year in 2016 - to 245 million -according to a report released by the National Healthand Family Planning Commission.
Last year, China's migrating population decreasedby 1.7 million from 2015, the report said.
Before 2015, the group had been growing, from 230million in 2011 to a peak of 253 million in 2014.
Over the past six years, the portion of all migrants who moved across provinces declined fromnearly 70% in 2011 to less than 64% last year, while the percentage of those migrating todifferent cities within the same province rose from about 25% in 2011 to more than 27% lastyear, it said.
Meanwhile, average age of migrants rose from 27.3 years to 29.8 years during the same period.
The monthly income of migrant workers increased by 15% annually, on average, between 2014and last year, the report said.
The drop in numbers over the past two years is largely the result of major policies issued by thegovernments to encourage migrants to settle down in the cities where they work, said WangQian, head of the department of services and management for migrant population of thecommission.
