At the same time as the demonstration operation, Hengtong Company frankly stated that the current fast-charge model still has problems such as low energy and delayed charging station construction. In order to solve these problems, Hengtong plans to use another three years or so to check the reliability of fast-charged batteries and “halve” the cost to reach the level of lithium iron phosphate batteries. At the same time, she also plans to adjust the ratio of her pure electric and plug-in electric buses based on the construction speed of the charging station.

After being fully charged, it is several times more efficient than traditional electric buses that take 4-6 hours to charge. It is understood that in order to verify the performance of fast-charging public transport buses, Hengtong Bus and Chongqing Public Transport have started demonstration operations since the first half of last year. Hengtong’s idea is to use Chongqing Bus as an experimental base to verify whether the cycle life of lithium titanate batteries can really satisfy 20,000 decays. As long as the actual operation can reach 15,000 times, it can be inferred that the battery life can reach 8 years, so as to truly break the bottleneck of the current short-lived lithium phosphate battery life. So far, on the basis of the 25 vehicles put on April 27, there are 31 fast-charging electric buses actually operating on the bus lines in Chongqing. Among them, the first six vehicles were put into operation on the 609 line in Chongqing in April 2011. This vehicle has so far traveled nearly 50,000 kilometers.


However, the actual operation needs to bear great risks. According to the price of RMB 1.6 million per vehicle, it is several hundred million yuan to put large batches of fast-moving buses into operation. This is not a small number for most companies. It also makes any bus company unwilling to take risks. Why Chongqing Bus is willing to take such a big risk?
