From Steve Redick: "This is Proviso East High School located at 807 S First Ave in Maywood, Illinois. Based on what I could observe from the exterior, there was a fire in at least one classroom, and it seemed to have spread vertically across one or two floors. The firefighters had to deploy long hose lines, and I believe they extended more lengths once they were inside. Reports from people at the scene before I arrived mentioned significant smoke conditions. The only part of the operation I managed to witness was the deployment of the MABAS MVU10 unit, which was being operated by the Lyons Fire Department. These units are quite similar to those used by the Chicago Fire Department. This is an older building, so it presented some unique tactical challenges." Attached are several photos taken by Steve Redick. The first image shows a Seagrave aerial ladder at night, highlighting the firefighting effort. In the next photo, you can see firefighters climbing a ladder to reach the roof during the incident. The third picture captures the fire raging at Proviso East High School. Another shot displays a fire engine connected to a hydrant under the cover of darkness. Further images provide close-ups of the fire scene and the Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) in action. According to the Chicago Tribune: "A major fire erupted at Proviso East High School in Maywood on Saturday evening, causing considerable damage and alarming families who were attending a school play. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The fire was initially reported around 9 p.m. at the west suburban high school, located at 807 South First Avenue, and was upgraded to a three-alarm status around 9:40 p.m., according to officials. Speaking at the scene around 11 p.m., Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh stated that the fire resulted in 'substantial damage,' but there were no reports of injuries. Chief Bronaugh mentioned on Sunday morning that the fire originated in a social office on the second floor of the school. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation." Thanks, Dan.
