LafargeHolcim selects Flyability as a key technology provider to launch the "Plants of Tomorrow".

Lausanne, Switzerland – July 9th, 2019 – Flyability is excited to share that LafargeHolcim has chosen the Elios 2 for confined space inspections as part of their "Plants of Tomorrow" initiative. This marks a major step forward in integrating advanced technologies into industrial operations.

LafargeHolcim's "Plants of Tomorrow" initiative focuses on leveraging automation, robotics, AI, predictive maintenance, and digital twin technologies across their entire production process. The goal is to bring Industry 4.0 solutions to the building materials sector. According to the company, certified "Plants of Tomorrow" facilities can achieve up to 15–20% improvements in operational efficiency compared to traditional cement plants.

Automation and robotics are key components of LafargeHolcim’s strategy. By using drones like the Elios 2, they can conduct more frequent inspections while lowering costs and improving worker safety. However, this wasn't an easy decision—especially given the challenging conditions in the cement industry, where dust and corrosion are constant concerns.

To ensure the Elios 2 met their specific needs, LafargeHolcim worked closely with Flyability as a product advisor and beta tester during its development. “If you can fly in a cyclone or a Clinker silo, you can fly anywhere,” said Jorge Gamarra, Head of Maintenance Equipment Technology at LafargeHolcim. Their collaboration helped refine features such as dustproof lighting and stabilization systems, making the drone more robust for harsh environments.

The partnership between LafargeHolcim and Flyability addressed a significant challenge, but the results have been well worth it. Today, the Elios 2 is being deployed across multiple regions, including Switzerland, France, Germany, the UK, the US, Canada, India, and Russia.
