In honor of National Volunteer Week, we’re thrilled to highlight some inspiring milestones and stories from our incredible Rümineers. These team members embody our values and contribute significantly to making a positive impact in the communities we serve! One shining example is the remarkable duo of Thomas and Garrett, both passionate members of our Customer Care Happiness Center. Together, they’ve devoted over 40 hours of volunteer time to various community initiatives, contributing to the impressive total of 400+ volunteer hours achieved in 2022—and counting! Recently, we caught up with them to learn more about their experiences as Rümi volunteers and what motivates them to give back. Here’s what they shared: **Garrett:** “For me, volunteering is all about connecting with people. I love meeting customers face-to-face and sharing the human side of our work. It’s rewarding to see their reactions when they realize there’s a real person behind the phone.” **Thomas:** “I really enjoy engaging with people directly and listening to their feedback. Hearing firsthand what they need helps us improve and grow as a team.” When asked about the synergy between building connections and volunteering, both agreed it’s a natural fit. **Garrett:** “As an Albertan, I cherish the stories people tell about their connections to ATCO or Blue Flame Kitchen. It reinforces how deeply rooted we are in this province.” **Thomas:** “For me, being new to Alberta, it’s fascinating to witness the strong bonds here. Being part of the ATCO family gives Rümi a unique advantage in connecting with the community.” When asked about their favorite aspect of volunteering, both emphasized the camaraderie and fun involved. **Thomas:** “It’s simply enjoyable! Conversations with people are always enlightening, even during fast-paced events. Plus, we rarely stay hidden away—we’re always front and center!” **Garrett:** “And it’s not just about handing out prizes. Volunteering at places like WINS is about teamwork. Working together makes it all the more enjoyable.” Reflecting on their most memorable moments, Garrett recalled a lighthearted yet unforgettable incident. **Thomas:** “There was this soccer event at Spruce Meadows. Someone loved our Rümi sunglasses so much that he traded his expensive designer shades for a pair!” **Garrett:** “Yes! It was hilarious. His birthday wish came true, and everyone laughed about it afterward.” Looking ahead, Rümi continues to expand its community efforts through initiatives like ügive. Since its launch, we’ve partnered with local charities aligned with our mission, including Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, HomeSpace Society, and WINS. Highlights from 2022 include: - Sponsoring the Home Refurbishment Program with Habitat for Humanity, providing $20,000 grants and six months of free energy. - Preparing welcome meals for 10 families using recipes from Blue Flame Kitchen. - Donating over 400 volunteer hours. - Sorting donations with WINS and revitalizing spaces with HomeSpace Society. - Matching employee contributions to charitable organizations beyond ügive events.
