At Rümi, we live by five core values: Caring, Collaboration, Agility, Integrity, and Safety. These values guide everything we do as a company dedicated to bringing happiness to the places where people live and work. To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we’re thrilled to highlight some inspiring milestones and stories from our incredible Rümineers—team members who embody these values and contribute to making a positive impact in our communities. One of the highlights is the dynamic duo of Thomas and Garrett, both part of our Customer Care Happiness Center. Together, they’ve clocked over 40 hours of volunteer time, contributing to the impressive 400+ volunteer hours logged in the community in 2022 alone! Recently, we sat down with them to learn more about their experiences as Rümi volunteers and what motivates them to give back. **What do you enjoy most about volunteering?** **Garrett:** “For me, it’s all about making meaningful connections. I love interacting with people face-to-face, beyond just phone calls. It’s about showing the human side of our brand.” **Thomas:** “I really enjoy meeting new people and listening to their feedback. Hearing directly from customers helps us understand their needs better and improves our service.” **Why do you think building connections and volunteerism go hand in hand?** **Garrett:** “Growing up in Alberta, I’ve seen firsthand how everyone here has a story about ATCO or Blue Flame Kitchen. Volunteering allows us to strengthen those connections and show how Rümi fits into the bigger picture.” **Thomas:** “As someone originally from outside Alberta, I’ve noticed how deeply connected people are to their communities here. Being part of the ATCO family gives us an advantage in fostering those relationships.” **What’s your favorite part of volunteering?** **Thomas:** “It’s just plain fun! Having conversations with people is enjoyable, even if it gets busy sometimes. We’re always out there, never stuck behind a desk.” **Garrett:** “Absolutely! It’s not just about handing out prizes or setting up booths; we also volunteer at places like WINS. Doing it as a team makes it even more rewarding.” **Garrett:** “Plus, it’s a great way to bond with colleagues while giving back. It feels good knowing we’re building friendships and strengthening our community ties.” **Any memorable moments from volunteering?** Both laugh as Garrett recalls a funny incident from a recent event. **Thomas:** “Remember when we were at that soccer event, and someone traded their designer sunglasses for a pair of our Rümi shades?” **Garrett:** “Yes! It was someone’s birthday, and they were desperate for a pair of our green sunglasses. One guy overheard him and swapped his expensive shades for ours right then and there!” **What’s next for Rümi in the community?** Since launching ügive, our community initiative, we’ve focused on supporting local charities aligned with our mission. From Habitat for Humanity’s Home Refurbishment Program to community clean-ups with HomeSpace, our Rümineers have been actively involved in giving back. Last year, we achieved some amazing milestones: - Sponsored Habitat for Humanity’s Home Refurbishment Program, providing $20,000 and six months of free energy to families. - Donated over 400 hours of volunteer time. - Built homes with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. - Sorted donations with WINS (Women in Need Society). - Revitalized spaces with HomeSpace Society. - Launched a matching program where we donate to charities based on employee volunteer hours outside of ügive initiatives. Wow, it’s been quite the journey! But we’re far from done. Stay tuned to our newsletter for updates on upcoming events and ways you can join us in making a difference in your community. There’s plenty more to come!
