The Chicago Tribune reports that a tragic house fire in Tinley Park today resulted in the death of an elderly woman. According to officials, the incident occurred on Friday morning at a condo complex located on the 6200 block of Pine Trail Lane.
Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Slepski stated that the fire originated in the woman’s second-floor bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as confirmed by a release from the Tinley Park Fire Department. At this time, the woman's name has not been released, though officials have described her as "elderly." A second woman living in the adjacent unit was safely evacuated but suffered no injuries.
A neighbor who lived downstairs reported calling 911 after a landscaper noticed smoke coming from the upper windows and rang the doorbell. Luis Calderon, a landscaper with Nogas Landscaping, said he saw the smoke and alerted another homeowner, who then rang the doorbell. However, the woman upstairs did not answer.
Later in the afternoon, village officials confirmed that the elderly woman had died at the scene. Emergency services from multiple departments, including CCHills, Mokena, Frankfort, and two Trace Ambulances, arrived quickly to assist with the response.
