The Chicago Tribune reports that a tragic house fire in Tinley Park today resulted in the death of an elderly woman. Officials confirmed that the incident occurred on Friday morning at a condo complex located on the 6200 block of Pine Trail Lane. According to Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Slepski, the fire originated in the second-floor bedroom of the woman’s residence. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as stated in a release from the Tinley Park Fire Department. At this time, village officials have not released the woman's name, but they have described her as "elderly." A second woman living in the adjacent unit was safely evacuated from the second floor without sustaining any injuries, according to officials. A neighbor who lived downstairs reported that he called 911 after a landscaper knocked on the door and noticed smoke coming from the upper window. The landscaper, Luis Calderon of Nogas Landscaping, said he saw smoke early in the morning and alerted another homeowner, who then rang the doorbell. However, the woman upstairs did not answer. Later in the afternoon, village officials confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.
