# How to Install a Bottom Screw Tap
**Author:** Eliza Douglas
**Date Posted:** July 13, 2021
Hello everyone! Today, I want to share with you a simple yet effective guide on how to install a bottom screw tap. Whether you're working on your own or helping someone else, these steps should make the process smooth and straightforward.
---
## Tools You’ll Need:
- **Drum Spanner**: Essential for opening the bottom bung.
- **Knife**: To help cut through the drum’s surface.
- **Flathead Screwdriver**: Useful for prying open sections that need a bit more force.
- **Bottom Screw Tap**: The main component you’re installing.
---
### Step-by-Step Guide:
First things first, ensure that your drum is positioned so that the bottom bung is facing upwards. This step is crucial because it prevents any accidental spillage during the installation process. With the bung facing up, use the end of your drum spanner to gently twist it open. Once opened, you'll notice there's a plastic piece behind it. This is a safety feature designed to prevent leaks during transport. (Refer to Picture 1)
---
Next, after removing the bottom bung, take out your knife and begin cutting a square shape into the center of the drum. Cutting a square can make the job easier, especially since the middle tends to be the toughest part to slice through. (Refer to Picture 2)
---
Once you’ve made progress cutting through the drum, switch to using a flathead screwdriver to push the remaining sections open. It’s best to focus on three sides first, creating an opening large enough to push the fourth side inward toward the interior of the drum. (Refer to Picture 3)
---
With the hole created, you can now proceed to install the drum tap. Simply align it with the opening and secure it properly. (Refer to Picture 4)
