As the potash mining sector continues to evolve, Sigma Thermal remains committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions through ongoing innovation and system enhancements. This dedication to progress has led us to collaborate closely with leading industry figures worldwide to tackle complex challenges with creative answers. Inproheat Industries, one of our esteemed Canadian partners, recently showcased their expertise by integrating their proprietary SubCom® submerged combustion technology alongside a Sigma Thermal heater into a potash mining operation. Their efforts have resulted in a remarkable success story from a project based in Saskatchewan. A project spanning 2019-2020 in Saskatchewan exemplifies how new and innovative approaches can transform potash solution mining. Early in the planning phase, Inproheat Industries received a request to provide a submerged combustion system capable of heating highly corrosive saturated potash brine to temperatures up to 110°C. Familiar with SubCom's exceptional energy efficiency and its ability to handle scaling issues effectively, the engineering team was confident that this technology would be ideal for the task at hand. Inproheat Industries collaborated extensively with the client to refine the engineering specifications and system designs. This included reaching out to a select group of trusted industry collaborators to ensure that all components met the highest standards and addressed the specific demands of the project. The final outcome was a three-burner SubCom system designed to heat brine to 82°C at 51 million British thermal units per hour (MM Btu/h). Following this initial step, the heated brine is then directed through a Sigma Thermal HC2 Glycol Heater, which elevates the temperature further to between 100°C and 110°C before it reaches the injection pumps. Additionally, Tranter plate and frame heat exchangers were incorporated into the setup to efficiently transfer heat from recovery well brine to the injection brine. The primary goals of this initiative were to deliver a high-efficiency potash mining solution with minimal environmental impact while providing substantial economic benefits to Saskatchewan. Through teamwork and collaboration among Inproheat, Sigma Thermal, Tranter, and others, the project achieved these aims while maintaining unwavering support throughout each phase of development. We believe in fostering meaningful relationships with key industry stakeholders to push boundaries and establish new benchmarks. By working hand-in-hand with clients and partners, we create forward-thinking solutions tailored to address unique and intricate problems.
