NEW YORK CITY (At the CGI Annual Meeting) — This week, during the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting, Autodesk announced the launch of its Technology Impact program. This initiative aims to provide software donations to selected nonprofits that are actively using design to make the world a better place. In the first year, Autodesk has pledged to contribute $7.5 million worth of software.
"Through the Technology Impact program, we want to ensure that nonprofits have access to top-tier design software so they can achieve their vital missions," said John Cary, executive director of the Autodesk Foundation. "We aim to equip at least 500 nonprofit organizations with our software in the first year. These organizations are involved in a wide range of design activities with significant social impact—some are constructing hospitals, homes, and schools globally, while others are developing affordable life-saving medical devices."
For years, Autodesk has been sharing its software with entities focused on envisioning, designing, and creating a better future, including nonprofits, educational institutions, and numerous clean-tech companies worldwide. With this new program, Autodesk will offer qualified nonprofits two licenses of its professional design software suites: Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium, Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium, Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite Premium, and Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite Ultimate. Nonprofits can apply online at www.autodesk.com/technologyimpact.
MASS Design Group, headquartered in Boston and renowned for its award-winning Butaro Hospital in rural Rwanda, is among the first beneficiaries of the design tools offered through this program. Alan Ricks, co-founder and COO of the group, shared, "Access to advanced 3D design tools from Autodesk has allowed us to engage local builders, artisans, and community members in discussions about the construction process and our designs. This ensures that structures reflect the unique characteristics of the places they are built in. We believe no location is truly resource-poor; we just need to uncover the resources that can generate the most positive outcomes."
