According to NBC Chicago:
A pilot was killed after a small plane crashed into a home in a residential neighborhood in Plainfield, a southwest suburb of Chicago, around 11:15 a.m. Thursday. The Joliet Police Department reported that the crash occurred near the 1800 block of Hampton Court, close to Chestnut Hill Road and Bedford Drive.
No one was inside the home when the crash happened, and the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed there were no injuries on the ground. However, it is still unclear how many people were aboard the plane. Joliet's city manager confirmed that the pilot was among those who died.
Footage from the scene showed significant damage to the house, with one side completely burned and debris scattered across the street. Officials believe the fire was caused by fuel from the aircraft, though the full cause of the crash is still under investigation. Emergency crews are working to secure the area and assess the situation.
